personal
I don't usually post anything of a personal nature but I'm making a brief exception here.
The missus and I have decided to go our separate ways after a little under eight years together. It's a truly mutual decision and we're being very civilised about it but, obviously, it's still difficult and there's a lot to sort out so please excuse me if I go a bit quiet for a while.
On a practical note: one or other of us will shortly be looking for somewhere new to live so if anyone needs a housesitter for their luxury villa in Tuscany, do feel free to get in touch.
Normal service will resume eventually.

overheard
Attempt at a conversation starter overheard (directed at the missus) in the pub last night:
"So how's it going with that thing you were going on about last time?"
Genius.

have a cup of tea
guest starring Mr Halford
A special treat for you today, a guest contribution from my good friend Mr Dominic Halford, officially the Most Valued Player in my rounders team since records began* and all round fine fellow. You may have to squint a bit to read the writing, apologies for that, but it's worth the effort.
*Records began in 2006 and are kept by Mr D Halford.

hang spring cleaning
I am delaying further work on the Albert Square picture and extending my neglect of you, gentle reader, for a further day because it looks nice out and I'm hoping fresh air and the sight of other human beings might dislodge a Brilliant Idea from some dark crevice of my brain for the Fairly Secret Project. As further stimulus I'm going to peruse some old sketchbooks (from whence the jolly chicken, newly badly coloured, below). So, off I go now, for a swim and a walk and a think (and maybe tea and a bun at some point too).

quiet
Apologies for the lack, I am going quietly mad drawing Albert Square. Hopefully there may be more elephants soon or some other amusement.
While you're waiting, you could do much worse than to go and see the moving picture Children of Men which is terribly good.

things fall apart (or, at least, a chair does)
It's been a mixed kind of a week with a right old mix of good things and bad. Nothing really, really bad, just some cumulative irritations of a kind that need frequent and loud swearing at. For instance my work chair, after occasional spells of falling apart in the past, chose to fall apart properly and completely and is now held together by string in a somewhat unconvincing manner. Not ideal.
But here's an elephant to cheer us all up.
