Oops, looks like my scanner could use a clean - apologies for the blots on the bear.

Edwin and Molly episode 2

timewasting

So the foolish attempt at using coloured pencils to produce a mother's day card takes me an hour or more before I realise it looks awful. Then the second attempt using the same design but colouring on the computer takes up a while before I realise that the problem with the first one wasn't just the cack-handed use of colour but was a lot to do with the drawing being dull and lifeless and, hey, it still is now. So I knock out a slightly panicked third version in 15 minutes flat and it looks fine.

The moral of this story? Never start a job more than 15 minutes before it needs to be finished.

(Note to any potential clients reading this: I'm kidding, obviously. No, really).

sweetheart

My good friend Homunculus Fossilback (well, he's more a friend of a friend really, or possibly the imaginary friend of an imaginary friend) has written to alert me of the launch of his new endeavour the Sweetheart Club. Take a poke around. It is a peculiar place. This can only be a good thing.

Update: I particularly commend to you the "Intelligence" material available on the noticeboard.

Edwin and Molly

A mere 8 months and a bit since I said they were "moving in soon"...

Episode two will be with you within the year.

Probably.

The pen seems to have benefitted significantly from a little lie down and a rest since the previous page...

Incidentally, if you get bored of the drawings from my sketchbooks then do please take a look in someone else's. These are really great.

brown paper

Bought a book of brown paper a while back but barely did anything in it until yesterday. Here's a yawning bear and some other stuff.

sad

I am saddened to hear that the uncategorisable entertainer, philosopher, surrealist, poet, genius, idiot, composer, musician, author and wisest man in the universe, Mr Ivor Cutler, has died aged 83. And the world turns a shade greyer and more sensible at his passing.

I once sent him one of my little small press, self-published booklets via Andy Kershaw though I've no idea if he ever received it let alone what he might have thought of it. Not much probably.

Anyway, I suggest you all chuck a spoon out of the window in remembrance of him. But do it quietly.

life of a pen page twelve

Just getting over a monster cold which may have contributed to the dark tone of this page, though it's at least as much to do with the state of the pen: as it's drying out it lends itself more to scritchy scratchy shading.
